Writing looks a lot like not writing these days, and it’s paying off. I’m making progress on my “side quest” of that Believe in Santa cross stitch, and I’ve read several books to aid in the next round of rewrites for Singularity. Writing Sci-Fi, Fantasy, & Horror for Dummies is so valuable as a reference that I returned it to the library and bought my own copy. It’s also beneficial to reread books you’ve enjoyed in the past for inspiration and tips, which I’ve done by reading Planetfall Series again. It addresses similar themes and issues as Singularity, and I’ve found a lot of inspiration and ideas. In fact, I have quite a list spinning through my “idea agitator” for my next round of rewrites. (one I came up with as I pondered my manuscript while running laundry)
I’ve also been following up on promotional leads, as is evidenced by the number of author interviews that have released since December. I don’t typically like these, as I prefer to talk about my books, but they are valuable in reaching readers, so I’ve had to overcome the inner introvert and do them. The latest one posted at Awesome Gang yesterday. I guess drawing out the extrovert worked, because I was bold enough to branch out to requesting book reviews and it paid off with this great review of Broken Time, which recently posted. Now to keep this momentum up!
That’s easier to do during these “writing breaks,” which, as it turns out, aren’t really breaks. They’re more like shifts in focus from actual writing to research, promotion, and all of the other “backstage” things that go along with writing. I’m learning, though, and that’s good. Here’s to continued opportunity and success as my writing grows!
