There's nothing like celebrating a birthday to close out the old year. I think it's good to set a positive tone and expectations for the new year. I know many have been hesitant to do this since the fateful year of 2020. How many posts have you seen saying "don't call it 'your year!' Walk in quietly and respectfully and don't make any noise!" I get it, but the fact is that it's over now. We're three years past the pandemic and resulting chaos. The world has moved on, and so should you. I'm not saying to be cocky or arrogant, but I do believe it's time to find our spunk again. We are still alive and in this world, and should make the most of that. Maybe we need to kick down the gate of 2023 like we mean it.
You ought to know what you have in this post-pandemic reality. You should have accepted it, and you ought to know what works and what doesn't. If you're going to resolve to do anything, perhaps the best place to start is the best with what you've got. Take stock, decide what you want, and figure out what thoughts and actions will put you on the path to making it a reality.
Do better.
I gave up on the standard diet/eat right/exercise/organize/write more and better resolutions years ago. My resolution for 2022 was simply to "do better." It seemed vague, but it worked. Casting that wide net not only opened my mind to seeing the world better, but to opportunities that would put me back on my feet and back in action. I stopped to consider every area of my life and what day-to-day thoughts, decisions, and actions would lead to positive outcomes. It worked so well that I'm continuing it into 2023. As we say at work, don't reinvent the wheel. If you have something that works, keep using it. "Do better" might seem general, but the wide application has worked wonders on my life. Sometimes the simple approach is the best.
I don't know what you want, but it seems that "doing better" applies to all. So stop playing small. Stop doubting. Stop letting the world confuse you and beat you down. Stand up, find yourself, and kick down the gate of 2023 like you mean it.
That's all today. Have a wonderful weekend and a Happy New Year!
