There ought to be a law against getting sick just five weeks after you've already been sick but alas, biology knows no such laws. And because I couldn't take off work, I wound out spreading this to a lot of people. I hate that. I would have rather kept myself and my germs at home, but let's be honest - such is the nature of life when you're employed. It's on you to keep the world turning.
The path to recovery also seems to get longer the older you get. I'm not one for getting stuck on age, but the fact is that it takes me longer to get over illnesses now than it did 20 years ago. Healing takes time, it's frustrating, and it hurts. That's not mind over matter, or any other brain trick - it's just the facts. You can't fool your cells, no matter how "happy" or "well" you think yourself. A good mental attitude can give you hope and assurance that this too shall pass and the strength to face it, but it doesn't kill viruses or bacteria. I've had plenty of experience with that over the past two months. Only time in the case of viruses, and antibiotics in the case of bacteria. Science wins. Or, as I often say when talking to people about why they should never Never NEVER have a retaining wall: when it's man versus nature, nature wins every time. You can hold it back, but you can't hold it off forever. It's a fact of life. Amen.
I've spent this weekend trying to get back on track, and basically reboot myself for 2019. So far, so good. I cleaned up the house, got chores and errands done, and can hopefully get back to work with my personal stuff cleared and able to focus on what's needed there. Heck, I even managed to enter a writing contest today, and I'm preparing materials for another one opening next month. The big thing is fighting to get my energy and motivation back. I don't feel like doing anything, but I'm able, so it's time to get back to it. Again. I'm sure part of my problem is it being cold. It's hard to get going when you've got to bundle up to do so. Not fun, and here I am in the south which is seeing nothing compared to a lot of you. We are thin skinned. I am, anyway.
In closing, I'll mention that today is 90 days since I bought the Sonata. I know this fun fact because my free trial of Sirrus radio expires today, and they've been aggressively trying to reach me to pay for the service the past couple of weeks. By aggressively, I mean calling me four times a day for two weeks, daily emails, and mailers twice a week. Sirrus radio is nice, and I've enjoyed the trial. I especially like Lithium, Turbo, 90's on 9, Spa, and Classical Radio. But I don't like it enough to pay $120+ a year for it. And frankly, my daily commute isn't usually that long. Sure, we have a catastrophic wreck that locks up traffic and makes my 3 mile commute take an hour about once every 90 days, but that's still not enough to spend that kind of money on radio. I'll enjoy my trial this one last day, but tomorrow it's back to broadcast radio.
So that's why I missed the blog last week. I'm recovered and trying to get back on track. Here's hoping it sticks and I stay well this time so I can stay on track.
That's all today. Take care, and have a great week.
Bye!
