Or has it already? I read an article online yesterday that said retailers consider November 1 the kickoff of “Black Friday” sales. It seems “they” keep trying to extend the season. The holiday season used to start on Thanksgiving Day. Now, the push is to start it the day after Halloween.
Call me old fashioned, but I prefer the old ways. I do start my Christmas shopping around Veterans Day, but that’s a matter of practicality to spread out the costs and effort over a manageable period of time. And yes, I did go to the Craftsman Christmas Classic last Friday, but that’s an event that you go to when it comes to town, and it came last weekend. In all other ways, I hold off until at least Thanksgiving week. I mentioned this in my last entry, and I stand by it. I’m embracing this last “non-holiday” week before the rush hits – or rolls over you like a steam roller in those old Looney Toons. I'll be ready once Monday dawns. We’ll see soon enough.
But for a few more days; I’ll enjoy the silence. Actually, this week has been hectic and busy as everybody noticed the same thing I did, and hit the panic button on tying up all of the loose ends by 5 p.m. tomorrow. Heck, I’m already getting auto replies at work from people that have logged out for Thanksgiving. But the radio stations haven’t started playing Christmas carols yet, and the TV shows are hinting at previews of holiday specials to come. Christmas decor is still spotty out and about, and the signs at random businesses around town. are still celebrating fall. There will be some quiet and calm before the holly jolly hits. I’m an “embrace where you’re at” kind of person, so I want to hold on to what is before this particular season is gone. Yes, I love the holidays, but can we finish "just plain fall" first?
That’s all today. Have a happy Friday tomorrow, and a wonderful weekend.
Bye!
