Darn tooting. It certainly isn’t for somebody who's spent years getting a doctorate in divinity and have it all figured out. It’s for you. That’s right, YOU. The people down in the trenches of real, everyday life with me. The people that this will really resonate with because somewhere along the way, you’ve shared these experiences and the confusion and soul searching they’ve caused. You know the shock of the paradigm shift, and so do I. Now, let’s work through it together.
Sometimes, you need that higher perspective, and it’s certainly imperative to keep us on the path to faith. We need leaders with a higher knowledge and deeper understanding to guide us along the way. I mention plenty of advice from pastors and Christian counselors in Joy. But other times, it’s like Fiona said to the Yelp reviewer in that episode of Shameless about believing her crappy opinions are making the world a better place. You need a word in season from your peers, not from somebody on a pedestal above you.
Of course, the “higher ones” would argue that I’m the one sharing a crappy opinion. Fair enough. All things aren’t for all people. But what they don’t realize is that I’m telling you the exact same story in Joy on the Journey that I tell you in The Earthside Trilogy. The difference is that I fictionalize it in the Earthside books, while I say it straight in Joy. It’s different strokes for different folks. The core issue is that sometimes, life experiences change you, and that’s alright. In fact, some things should change you, and if they don’t or you’re fighting it then that’s the problem, because sometimes you do need to find a new way of doing things. Whether you take it straight or diluted doesn’t really matter. It’s there both ways.
And that’s why I say that the pastors and people with the alphabet soup of credentials behind their name won’t get it, which is why I won’t ask them to review it. Heck, it might be best if they stay away. I’m not sure they can “get” this much unfiltered reality. You, dear reader, are another story. I know you get it because you’ve been on the road with me, and you watched it unfold through my social media posts and blogs. A few have even walked the path with me personally.
Joy on the Journey isn’t a self help book; it’s a self guidance book. It tells how I found my way through a difficult period in my life, and offers you tips and tricks I learned along the way to hopefully help you navigate similar waters. I think you’re smart enough to know what’s real and what works in your life. My purpose in writing and publishing Joy is to remind you of that, and to inspire you to find the truth working within you. Really, I think that’s an underlying theme in all of my books – to search within and find your own truth. The only difference between fiction and non-fiction is in the delivery.
Honestly, I don’t see why I should approach promotion of Joy on the Journey any different than my fiction titles. My platform is my fiction writing, and I’m here offering a bit of variety. If you want it, great. If not, feel free to pass it along to others. It’s here for you.
That’s all today. Take care, and have a great week.
Bye!
