As I was remembering the joy of my grammar school days, it occurred to me that the more things change, the more they stay the same. I’ve often said that this isn’t the same world that I grew up in, but on second thought, maybe it’s just version 2.0.
Think about it: once upon a time, I carried dolls in a case to make up stories. Now I carry a laptop in a case to do the same thing (it also replaces those spiral notebooks and journals I used to keep with my stories). Tinkerbell has given way to Avon, plastic jewelry has evolved into silver and gold, Troll Books is now Amazon (and it has a lot more than books – hooray!) and that telephone that we used to roll behind us with the wacky eyes is now a smartphone (it's also your walkman, calendar, bookcase, game player, and so much more ...). Heck, we still watch cartoons – but instead of watching it on Saturday morning, we call it Marvel movies and D.C. television shows. Superheros have gone big time! And best of all, that Etch-A-Sketch is now a tablet.
That’s evolution! But the question remains: did we actually grow up? Or did Generation X and Generation Y bring our fun into adulthood and evolve it to real life?
It doesn’t matter. What matters is that when your really think about it, not much has really changed – and life is still fun in a whole new (and old) way.
It makes you think. Is it really that different? Or doing the same old things in new ways?
That’s all today. Take care, and have a great week.
Bye!
